According to UCA News, a study on Filipinos' character commissioned by the Senate recommended that action be taken to address Filipinos' lack of patriotism and national pride. As an example, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines has filed a complaint, claiming that a viral video by a Filipino Internet celebrity, Bretman Rock, is a violation of Republic Act No. 8491, or the Philippine Flag and Heraldic Code. In the video, Bretman incorporated a dance step in the national anthem of the Philippines, “Lupang Hinirang” Moreover, more than 30 watchers in the cinema in Laguna were caught by the police for not standing up while singing "Lupang Hinirang.”
