Trixie Jane G. Gapultos

“The key to successful leadership is influence, not authority.”- Kenneth Blanchard.

Influence is a word that is always associated with leadership because without influence there can never be a successful leader. Leaders accomplish their goals by enlisting the help of others. They motivate and guide others to achieve their objectives, and they constantly build and maintain cooperative working relationships. As a result, influence is guided by several rules that may be learned and utilized. Credibility, reciprocity, attraction, colleagueship, and dedication are some of the principles. Leaders must also have the skills to solve problems, be fair when dealing with issues and employees, be positive, and demonstrate self-efficacy. Leaders must sell ideas and persuade others to support and carry out decisions. (Read the full article here)

School Heads: The Architects in Education

Hazel Jane C. Cortez

San Antonio, Gerona, Tarlac

"The transformation will come from leadership. "- W. Edwards Deming

Leadership is a special skill of an individual to use his power or position to influence others to unleash their full potential. Moreover, leadership is a calling. Anyone can be a leader by title but only those selected are capable to lead. Leadership starts with a small blaze of fire until it grows. For the fire to grow, we put some papers, charcoal, and logs. Similarly, leaders share their learnings and expertise with their members to transform them into future leaders.

Excellent leadership plays a huge role in education. Educational leaders cannot be absent in every educational scenario. Good educational leaders can promote motivational school culture for teachers and students. They grow and combine the little combustion on the students and teachers to build a school on fire. If a school was set on fire, educational success is attainable.

Educational leadership is the art and mastery of constructing and executing effective plans for school management. Educational leaders are like architecture. They modify the school's reputation. Their plans sketch the future of the school.

Like architects. School leaders develop a strategic plan that suits the needs of their members and staff to ensure that everyone is functional and safe. Mostly, school leaders and architects work in a well-ventilated room. From there, they silently formulate solutions that will greatly help their territory. Moreover, they don't just limit themselves to a four-corner rooms. They conduct a schedule to visit each classroom make sure that programs are executed according to the original plans.

Educational leaders act as architects, guiding and developing school administration strategies. They prepare the plans and disseminate them to the other members of the team. The physical environment of the school is designed and supplemented by school leaders. A clean restroom, well-ventilated rooms, a sufficient number of chairs, healthy and safe foods available in canteens, and well-mandated security in school are some of the school's requirements that will help to improve its image. To establish what needs to be supplemented, educational leaders engage with their members and staff.

Furthermore, they prepare and administer school memoranda and policies to maintain the school's peace and order. Furthermore, they provide accurate and effective answers to complicated school issues. They are bold enough to confront concerns while still being gentle enough to listen and consider the requests of their members and staff. Educational leaders like architects keep in touch with the trends in society. Existing plans and elevations are modified to meet the needs of the majority.

Architects are similar to educational leaders. Educational leaders make plans for the enhancement of the general welfare, just as architects construct designs for aesthetic and functional value.

Educational Leadership Hacks: Keep Them in Your Pocket

May G. De Jesus

Brgy. Suizo, Tarlac City

To all the educational leaders, we would like to say that we are proud of you. Here are the things that will make you more efficient.

Administrators should focus their school's attention on two or three specific, school-wide objectives. Schools will have a lot of goals, all of which are vital, but it's critical to prioritize only the most important ones. Hit your target one at a time. School leaders must foster the idea of “Quality over Quantity”. Whatever objectives administrators adopt, they must be data-driven, specific, and measurable.

School leaders don't need to have a long list of goals. Choose only those goals that are worth it and will give a worthy impact.

A school leader exists because of a purpose. A leader without a goal is a waste of time and money. To be efficient in educational leadership, school heads formulate more than a plan A. Afterward, all plans must be communicated confidentially to those trusted school staff.

Administrators must demonstrate to school leaders how to build a courteous and affirming environment. What steps do educators take to ensure that all students are treated with respect must be explained and mandated by the school leaders? Moreover, school leaders must identify and apply techniques that will make the school staff and members especially students feel recognized and appreciated.  Make tangible materials available to employees of the school and make them relevant and actionable.

Administrators should be relentless but patient with all students and teachers. Administrators should set aside time to see educators in action, participate in investigative and reflective discussions, and provide compassionate and specific feedback. School leaders should avoid seeing obstacles as deficits, rather than advantages when they create goals and work toward recovery.

Moreover. recognizing your constituents will further deepen the solid relationship inside the school. A good relationship among the members of the school will build unity. Cooperation of all stockholders of the school will achieve goals immediately. Appreciating your learners will give them the motivation to achieve academic and non-academic success. A motivated school is a happiest and victorious school.

Schools should strive to provide equal opportunities for all students to succeed. Prioritizing equality requires us to consider all students and encourages them to be creative, empathetic, and resourceful. Administrators can detect specific problems by disaggregating and analyzing school data to look at distinct groups of students.

A school needs a leader with open ears, eyes, and heart, as well as a helping hand. School leaders are like an active stimulant place in the school environment that will encourage the students and teachers to discover their hidden potentials. Discover the hidden does not only talks about the edges but also the things that cause malfunction to the school management. After discovering, developing the existing must also be incorporated. Dynamism exists in educational institutions. With that, constant modification is necessary.

Educational leaders dive on the battlefield the moment they are ready and well-equipped. If you are one of those school leaders, do not forget these hacks. Keep them in your security bag.

Tracing the Footprints of School Leaders

Manami Villanueva

Brgy. Maliwalo, Tarlac Cty

Stepping up or leveling up in a career is the most fulfilling part of working hard and following others. Of course, to reach the top requires a good amount of stress, pressure, doubt especially if you are working in the school setting wherein all people are good and efficient in their jobs. However, if these difficulties are surpassed, there will be no doubt that one follower can also lead a team someday. But transitioning from a follower to a leader can somehow be intimidating. Stepping into a role as a school leader can be both challenging and exciting. How you handle this transition can have a huge impact on your career. What would be the next step for those who are new in the field?

A new school leader will need a new set of skills to continue being successful and to continue developing. They will need to adapt the traits and develop the skills that make leaders into great leaders. New school leaders or principals can refer to their past principals and analyze how they get the work done and how they bind people together. This road that they are walking through has no quick fixes for it takes hard work and the refusal to give up.

What matters most is that you create your leadership style, you do not need to copy directly from anyone. Identifying one's leadership style and making it clear to the teachers about what you stand for, what's important to you, and what you will not tolerate can allow them to get to know you to be it personal and inspirational.

Moreover, as you move along to the career of being a leader, the basics of the school organization must still be there. As a new school leader, you will need to learn who and what layer of the land. Becoming familiar with all aspects of the school can help you see what is working and what is not, what are the weaknesses that are needed to be addressed.

Starting with a new role indeed is intimidating, but even though schools and experiences have taught you over the years, what you will feel like a school leader can be frightening. Nevertheless, it's just a matter of learning the habits and skills you need in time. As you surpass each day being a school leader, the trials and triumphs will all be embedded in your minds and hearts.

The Covid-19 pandemic may bring different challenges to the educational sector, but it also unites the community in bringing the quality education to the learners.     In the Philippines, the learning modalities pave way to the development of different strategies in teaching English. For printer modular, teachers develop their own materials that supplement the learning of the students. These are the modules, compendium of notes, activity sheets, assessment tools, and the like.

For online learning, teachers use interactive online applications and platforms to engage their students. Google Meet and Zoom become a popular online classroom, Through the series of trainings organized by DepEd, teachers learn how to create their own e-books, e-materials, and other engaging online tools.

Radio-based instruction is also introduced where teachers learn to produce their own audio lessons, write radio scripts, and become radio anchors and presenters. In Tarlac, Tarlac division has partnered with the local radio station to widen its coverage of bringing the lessons to the learners’ home through radio.

In addition, the national TV program of DepEd- the Deped TV- also paves way to train the teachers in broadcasting the lessons via television. Other teachers also become producers, scriptwriters, graphic artists, video editors, and composers.

Thus, this new form of teaching does not just help the learners, but also train the English teachers to be more flexible, creative, and passionate in their work.

Pre-Eminence of Educational Management Execution

In 1913, an American Educator Dr. Paul Monroe states that “School management, as a body of educational doctrine, comprises a number of principles and precepts relating primarily to the technique of classroom procedure, and derived largely from the practice of successful teachers."

Dr. Paul Monroe wrote several textbooks, articles, dissertation, and research for the improvement of educational field.  Some of his works are Source Book in the History of Education for the Greek and Roman Period (1901), A Text-Book in the History of Education (1905) and, Brief Course in the History of Education (1907). His illustrious contributions to the field of education have earned him a global recognition. Due to his efforts, charisma, and influence, several elementary and secondary school was named after him.

Given the statement from a triumphant educator, the grounds of educational management may still vary from leader to leader, and member to member. One thing is for sure, educational management serves as the Central Nervous System of all schools. If it shuts down, the entire school system will put in the verge of life and death. Millions of dreams, and source of income will be affected.

Educational management is an art and a systematic process of command and control in the operation of educational institutions. It entails group efforts, planned work, and performance toward the achievement of particular pre-determined goals. These aims or goals provide a key sense of direction for educational institutions' management.

Educational management s implemented in a school where they build and enter another realm. Hence, one of the educational management priorities in schools is to resolve the conflicts that arise as a result of diversity. Education is as awareness to people on how to recognize, respect, and appreciate differences of humans. Educational management must promote social transformation by providing adequate and suitable knowledge, expertise, global competitiveness, as well as values and etiquette to all members of the school community. Educational leadership is meant to foster a sense of mutual understanding among all parties engaged. A team that communicates well with one another, collaborates well, and achieves success as a unit.

Moreover, educational management existence is to create a compatible school environment. The ambiance in a school community must be pleasant in order for the school members to perform their individual obligation successfully and efficiently. In a Philippine context, one of the major challenges for the school leaders, staffs, and members is to function effectively above the insufficiency they are experiencing.

Using management science principles and methodologies, it is necessary to make the educational system more proactive rather than reactive. A proactive educational institution is dynamic enough to adapt in any context like pandemic. Changes involve time, effort, and lead to delays. Education places a high priority on time. Every squandering of time leads to a catastrophic failure.

Department of Education Computerization Program (DCP) to Cure Computer Illiteracy

It is widely believed in today's society that being computer literate or possessing a certain level of technical skill is one of the keys to success. Children are taught to use computers at a young age, sometimes they even know how to operate them without the guidance of the adults, and as they progress through primary and secondary school, they are exposed to a variety of technology regularly. As a result, individuals become proficient in the use of technology. There has recently been a lot of studies done to try to identify basic computer literacy abilities that all students need and to see if there is a demand for a broad computer literacy/skills course for all students.

Computers have an impact on every aspect of our life as well as every sector of a global society. Organizations and businesses prefer computer literate employees because they are more productive and efficient at work than non-literate employees. Moreover, jobs center around the computer as well.

Let us define first what it means to be computer literate. Computer literacy refers to the level of knowledge required to effectively operate computers and related technology. Skill levels can range from having a basic understanding of how to operate common software systems, platforms, and computer programs to have a working knowledge of computer programming. Moreover, this term is not absolute as it is constantly changing in response to new developments in computer technology. Every day, all sorts of knowledge and skills can be added, and the potential is limitless. As mentioned earlier, being computer literate can be learned in schools. In fact, schools offer computer subjects that can help build the skills of the students.

With that, according to the Department of Education Computerization Program (DCP), it aims to public schools with appropriate technologies that would enhance the teaching-learning process and meet the challenges of the 21st century. Also, its goal is to provide schools with basic knowledge and training about the hardware and software of a computer as well as simple troubleshooting.

One of the most common subjects when it comes to teaching computers is called Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This subject is taught in Junior High School up to Senior High School. Every school year, the progress of learnings levels is up to one by one. From basics to being able to work with a computer well. With this subject, no one will be left behind and will adapt to progress as computers are the future of the world.

Fastidious Orchestration of DepEd For Boisterous Fortune

“Without institution, there is no management, but without management, there is no institution.” – Peter Drucker

The Department of Education (DepEd) operates a factory that produces a wide range of successful professionals. DepEd respects all humans without prejudice and uses them as input to create multiple success stories. Furthermore, it is the mother organization of primary and secondary educational institutions that oversees their operations and provides ample resources to ensure academic achievement in the long run. Furthermore, through their Alternative Learning Systems, they encourage the development of students' particular skills (ALS). DepEd's aims, mission, and vision are also in line with the country's progress.

Given the many advantages of having a DepEd presence in a county, its policies and governance must be well-managed both inside and outside its boundaries. The Department of Education (DepEd) observes and follows the provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9155, also known as the Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001. One of the DepEd's management goals is to give educational leaders the authority to influence the progress of the entire school to which they have been assigned. DepEd also values accountability and transparency. They also seek to maintain their capability and capacity to satisfy expectations by including unstoppable breakthrough strategies into their long-term strategic goals.

To further strengthen its administration, the Department of Education has established levels of offices. Every level has its scope and restrictions, which benefit the entire DepEd administration. The Department of Education (DepEd) has the broadest jurisdiction and is in charge of enormous obligations, as well as power and privilege. On the other hand, the Regional Director's Office is responsible at the regional level. The Office of the Schools Division Superintendent mandates local management and administration of educational institutions in order to pay close attention to each municipality or locality.

DepEd's conflict resolution process is systematized, and all complainants must follow a step-by-step procedure to raise their issues. If a member wants to share his or her experiences and views, the first place to go is the school. School staff and educational leaders will supervise and attempt to resolve the issue at this level. If school-based management isn't enough to resolve the problem, it's necessary to seek assistance from the Schools Division Superintendent Office. They are more likely to grant the complainants' requests since they have more power and authority. If the Division level is unable to resolve the disagreement, the Office of the Regional Director will be contacted. If the problem is exceedingly complicated and all of the sub-offices aren't able to help the complainants, DepEd will definitely be able to help. This is because, among all educational offices, they have complete access to the scopes and capabilities necessary to grant complainants' requests.

The administration acts as a ruler, transforming the DepEd's curved operational road into a straight and clear path. Being a DepEd administrator is both an honor and a privilege. Only those who are qualified are capable and being qualified entails projecting an image of a competent individual with a heart or passion in their work.

Impacts of Effective School Administration to Students, Teachers, and Community Involvement

School management is a term used to describe a set of procedures used in schools to produce the greatest possible environment for students' excellent performance, teachers' successful ways, and community participation. The school management system is used daily to guarantee that all instructional resources (input) are utilized to the greatest extent possible to achieve educational goals and objectives. School management is incorporated for the student's concerns and necessities in school. School management  systems assist administrators in keeping track of student information and properly managing the school's resources. For their academic activities, many schools are comfortable with old arrangements. Now that the schools contain 21st Century teachers and students, innovation in school administration is highly recommended. Refusing to implement new school administration technologies may result in additional work for academic professionals and even more discomfort for students.

In schools where sensitive and significant data must be safely stored, school management systems improve the flow of information. This will come in handy while keeping track of school records, academic achievements, and clearances for pupils. It also allows students the autonomy to direct their educational journey.

Furthermore, school management directs the teacher's practices in school. The evaluation of teachers is an important element of a school administrator's responsibilities. When it comes to evaluating teachers, each school has its own set of criteria and procedures for administrators to follow. Some educational institution limits the type of evaluation tool you can use, while others do not. Schedule pre-and post-evaluation meetings with the teacher you'll be observing. This allows you to spell out your expectations and procedures in a one-on-one setting. School management with the presence of school administrators builds bridges for the students and teachers to unite their effort to both achieve each goal because the efficiency of school management is best measured through the success of the teachers and most especially the students.

The benefits of consistent community connection and engagement at all levels of the school are enormous in the short and long term. Make your school's involvement in the community a priority. According to studies, there is a strong link between family participation and student benefits, such as higher academic achievement. Remember that when schools, parents, and communities work together, incredible things can happen.

School administration is more than a requirement. It is transforming the school into the ideal spot for young voices to improve their skills till they are completely prepared and developed for the wider world they will encounter.
