CORNELL METHOD: A STRATEGIC TOOL TOWARDS IMPROVING THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS IN SCIENCE

      Teachers place importance on the skills of notetaking and listening and believe that students should have these skills to be successful in class (Boyle, 2010). In connection, retention of knowledge for life-long learning and for assessment and note-taking can help students as they reach this goal. Notes “provide students with tools for identifying and understanding the most important aspects of what they are learning” (Marzano, Pickering, & Pollock, 2001). Students who take notes typically retain more information than those who do not, which has a positive effect on learning (Titsworth, 2001). Hence, this study utilized the Cornell Method of note taking to improve the academic performance of the students in science.
